We Are Passionate About Bikes
NYC Velo, located in the East Village (2nd Ave between 3rd St and 4th St) and in Hell’s Kitchen (45th St at 11th Ave). Andrew Crooks, with the help of his family and friends, has created some of the most unique bike shops in Manhattan coupled with an unmatched level of employee aptitude. At NYC Velo, we believe a bike shop should be more than just a store – it should be a destination for cyclists. Our East Village store is pleased to offer espresso to any cyclist, gratis from our Giro d’Italia-edition Giotto, and a seat to enjoy it while watching our mechanics work. At the Hell’s Kitchen shop, delicious Blue Bottle coffee and the fantastic food choices of Gotham West Market are steps away, all of which can be enjoyed while looking in on the shop.
Our priority is to deliver superior customer service by catering to each customer’s needs, offering helpful service and advice, and treating each customer as a valued member of the NYC Velo community. To that end, NYC Velo offers professional bike fitting services, performed free of charge for customers purchasing bicycles from us and for reasonable rates for customers with non-NYC Velo bicycles. Our fit staff has been trained and certified by the Serotta International Cycling Institute (SICI) in Saratoga Springs, NY.
At NYC Velo, we believe that cycling is about more than the bike and its parts, it’s about being involved in the community through outreach and advocacy. NYC Velo is active in local cycling events and organizations, and works with alternative transportation nonprofit groups like Transportation Alternatives, IMBA, and Bikes Belong.
Our staff of experienced cyclists can help you get involved in the cycling community as well as recommend local rides. Additionally, NYC Velo offers a wide variety of bicycle rentals for either daily use or for competitive events (contact the shop for details on current availability) starting at $30 per day.
NYC Velo also supports various local and regional race teams, both on and off road. We proudly sponsor the Rockstar Games, Wafels & Dinges, Weather Channel, and Team NYC Velo racing teams.
Additionally, NYC Velo sponsors a team of elite mountain and cyclocross racers under the shop’s banner. The NYC Velo Racing team consists of Troy Ostrander, Todd Crooks, Ian Harris, Evan Murphy, Brett Champlain, Tom Stephenson, Chris McNally, and owner Andrew Crooks.
Come in and see what we are all about!

Good, honest guys. I went to several bike shops before Velo and they all seemed sketchy, or at least they tried to upsell me, bait and switch me, etc. The kicker is the prices here aren’t higher than those other seedy locations, which is often the case when going to a reputable location.
I’m still mid purchase here (bike arriving this week), but so far they’ve been fantastic. I’ll recommend them to anyone I know buying a bike.

As a long time cyclist I appreciate having a real neighborhood bike shop that takes the time to explain all of their products and services and always goes the extra mile to give me the best possible experience. All the staff are excellent and friendly and the selection is very well considered.

Chris was a big help and I left the shop having decided that they would bring a bike down from their Hell’s Kitchen store for me to try. The next weekend I went back for a test ride, I waited a little for the bicycle to be set up and chatted to the staff. After my ride, and I had decided on my bike purchase Matt assisted me with pedals, shoes, bibs/jerseys and a helmet. They took the time to explain everything and were very patient, even getting the trainer out so I could test the clip pedals before taking it out of the shop. Never felt out of place or unwelcome, a great introduction to cycling and bike shopping.

This place is great. Bought my bike here 7 years ago. No pressure, friendly staff. They also stayed open late once to help fix a flat. Highly recommend.

Patient, honest, and helpful. Walked out with a new bike feeling I had made a good investment and perhaps even made a friend in the neighborhood.
During my time picking a bike, tons of people dropped by to get air or ask for quick repairs. It is clearly a place that people trust.
By all means, give them a shot!
