I.F. You Please (Update)

Friday, October 30th, 2009

ifyouplease

We’ve been selling Independent Fabrication bikes for a few months now, and we are pleased as punch with the relationship. We’re so happy in fact, that we want to share! If you currently own an I.F., or are just thinking of buying one, we are co-sponsoring a ride with the fine folks from Somerville, MA on Saturday, November 7th. Show off your bike on a comfortable ride to Piermont, NY with like-minded individuals, and afterward I.F. will be on hand with some demo bikes and to answer questions. Don’t miss an opportunity to get to know this unique brand!

For those of you uptown, if you don’t want to schlep all the way down to the E.Village,  meet us at the entrance to the George Washington Bridge (south side, 178th St) at 10:00am.

We are also working on some raffle items from the likes of Embrocation Cycling Journal, Rapha, and more!…

$BOTW = Sale Bike Of The Week

Thursday, October 29th, 2009

As the season winds down, we’ve decided to start you a new feature – Sale Bike of the Week (heretofore known as $BOTW). Each week we will feature a great bike at a great price (lovingly photographed by Justin!) This week, it’s the full carbon Felt F3 SL.  A sharp mid-level racing bike, we must say it’s a steal at $2300. Come in and take a look (and a ride)!

Get Carter(‘s Pista), It’s BOTW!

Thursday, October 29th, 2009

Our UK pal Frank Carter (of Gallows) has put together a nice Bianchi Pista whilst Stateside. We see these bikes all day (and even while we sleep), so it’s nice to build one with a little pizzaz! Even though it’s well past Labor Day, we are digging the whites. More pics in the set.

We Like Making New Friends

Tuesday, October 27th, 2009

hillsboro

Last week we had a visitor stop by from the Pacific NW. His name was Brent and he was totally digging the shop – and given that he’s a die-hard cross racer and we’re all about CX this season, we appreciated the compliment. Brent picked up one of our shop kits, a cool t-shirt from cassette., and a few other goodies. We proceeded to enjoy a nice chat with him about coffee, East Coast ‘cross racing, and mutual friends.  So we were especially stoked when yesterday Brent sent us this *rad* photo of him competing in Portland’s Cross Crusade, representing NYCV.  Brent, glad we met ya!

ATMO, RS is BOTW

Friday, October 23rd, 2009

What’s left to say about Richard Sachs ? The man can do no wrong. We see his beautiful CX bikes each weekend at the races (along with The Man himself, either racing or working the pit for his team), and we usually pay special attention when a Sachs frame graces our shop.  This week was no exception; when John wheeled in this 1970′s era bike, we did more than that – we snapped some pics and knew immediately we had found our latest Bike of the Week.

There’s a story behind this frame too – John’s Dad was a sculptor who provided young Sachs with some of his first workshop tools. In return, he got this gorgeous bike – still on the road 30 years later – displaying more style and class than most current day “high tech” bikes.  More photos here.

Win A KONA Major One frameset with SICX!

Wednesday, October 21st, 2009

major_jakeThis press release came across our virtual desk today from our friends CJ and Jed. We’re proud to be a sponsor of this event!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

CHRISTOPHE JAMMET // JED KORNBLUH /// STATEN CX

October 21, 2009, NEW YORK — What’s better than 10-speed? ONE SPEED! Kona Bicycles and NYC Velo have teamed up with StatenCX 2009 with a very special incentive to pre-register for the November 29 event. All riders pre-registered by Sunday November 15 will be entered to win a Kona Major One frameset and, if that wasn’t enough… any rider who pre-registers for the Singlespeed Open/Tandem Open will receive an additional entry for two chances to win.

The promoters of StatenCX asked a few riders about the contest:

“This contest is so PRO.” Kyle Peppo, Toga/Gotham GS, New York City

“I am stoked to learn that Kona has given a Major One frameset to the people at SICX. The chance to win one of these puppies would open up the possibility to experience a new level of “Cyclocross Pain”. Racing on the Kona Major One would be an experience of epic proportions that few can understand but all can enjoy.” – Craig “Lebarrier” Lebair, Philadelphia Ciclismo, Philadelphia

“You can never have enough ‘cross bikes, especially if they’re free! Adding another incentive to race StatenCX is great. It already had the most to offer last year with the food, genuine cyclocross weather, and a super fun and technical course. I plan on racing both the B race and the Singlespeed Open race, since the course seems like it would be such a good time on a singlespeed! I love cyclocross!” – Sam Fiorino, Danny’s Cycles, West Chester

“Nothing says Staten Island better than Wu-Tang, White Castle, and Kona Major One. I’m stoked to be part of injecting some Cross Crusade love into the NYCX scene.” –Patrick Wilder, Cyclepath Racing, Portland

To enter the drawing, go to http://www.bikereg.com/events/register.asp?eventid=8782 and pre-register!. All entries are eligible for the drawing, which will be held after the Singlespeed Open event.

StatenCX’s 2008 event was the first cyclocross race in NYC in nearly a decade and featured Belgian waffles, courtesy of Wafels & Dinges, celebrity chef Matt Sigel of Hell’s Kitchen manning the BBQ, and plenty of food and drink from Wellshire Farms, Schaller & Weber, and Honest Tea Beverages.
