Hey nau

Sunday, November 29th, 2009

For those of you in the know, Portland-based nau is a clothing brand to watch. Makers of elegant, high-end activewear, nau impresses with great designs and environmentally friendly business and manufacturing processes. When our friend Jeremy put us in touch with the team at nau’s new pop-up shop in SoHo to help them with their window display, we were excited (to say the least).

nau - 69 Mercer Street

Andrew, Mike and Justin took a look at the space and discussed options with nau’s Art Director Eugenie. After a few days of strategizing, we ultimately agreed on a simple yet dramatic display incorporating several different styles of bikes – building on the theme of encouraging alternative modes of urban transportation.

Interior

Justin sacrificed his holiday plans and put his sculpture and studio talents to work and managed to get the installation complete in no time. We like to think the display draws visitors into the space, which is equally understated but no less interesting. (nau used all reclaimed wood and vintage fixtures for the store, which will be open through 2009. Plus Stumptown coffee is served on the lower level).

So stop by, make sure to check out the window and pick up a gift or two!

Very Professional

Saturday, November 28th, 2009

We spend a lot of time at the shop discussing all things PRO. At any point during the day you’re likely to overhear snippets of conversation like, “Those white bib shorts are so PRO.” “Arm warmers cannot be worn over a long sleeved jersey!” “Dude, who wrapped your bar tape – not very PRO.”

So when AN ACTUAL PRO walks into the shop, we tend to pay attention. Such was the case a few weeks ago when Columbia/HTC rider Evie Stevens stopped in for some quick adjustments on her bike. (It wasn’t too long ago that Evie was another kind of professional – on Wall Street. In 18 short months, Evie has lit up the national and international womens’ racing scence.)

While she waited on her repairs, we chatted about off-season training and her upcoming European race schedule. (We tried not to look TOO jealous…).
Once her bike was ready, we wished her luck (not that she’ll need it) on the upcoming season.

We have a feeling this will just be the first of many in her PRO career.

We’re SICX

Friday, November 20th, 2009

Nope, it’s not H1N1 –  it’s Staten Island Cross! We’re a proud sponsor of the upcoming race on Sunday November 29th, and we’re showing off some of the swag. This super limited edition long sleeve jersey is one of the prizes. We’re expecting a great turnout on race day, as CJ and Jed never fail to stir up a crowd of dudes in tights (even on Staten Island).

A Lad Insane

Ethan Laek over at Laekhouse has been hard at work this fall, and we managed to convince him to do an exclusive of his new “Eddy Sane” shirt on a long sleeve T.   A little Bowie goes a long way on this terrific design.  Only available at NYC Velo.

Fi’zi:k Vitesse – A Women’s Saddle Done Right

Wednesday, November 18th, 2009
We love to hear about how recent purchases are working for our customers, so we were happy to get this testimonial from local racer Edie Perkins. (You may recognize Edie from our Hillier Than Thou post.)
“For the past two years – ever since I got my road bike and started racing – I just assumed that enduring massive amounts of saddle-area agony was a part of the sport. My boyfirend must have finally gotten sick of my whining because he graciously bought me the Fi’zi:k Vitesse women’s saddle. In a word – it’s awesome. The saddle really fits like a dream. Not only am I no longer bouncing all over the place (the combination of my stiff aluminum frame and the previous hard-but-flexible saddle was like driving a car with no shocks on the BQE), but I’m actually comfortable now. And the best part? The more I ride it, the more it adapts to my body.”
Vitesse
In stock now. Black/Black or White/Pink.  $120.
