Sunday, Sunday, SUNNNNNDAYYY!

Paris-Roubaix is this Sunday, and with the Classics season heating up (FabCan, anyone?) we’re even more giddy with anticipation than usual. While we can’t guarantee it, we can hopefully find an acceptable internet feed and show the race at or around 10am (cycling.tv has been really stingy with announcing their schedule).

(Do yourself a favor and stay off of the Internet lest you come across a stray tweet from VeloNews spoiling the entire race. And we suggest showing up promptly at 10am in order to battle Rich Bravo for a spot on the couch.)

The Classics

It appears spring is finally spring-ing. And while that means more time on the bike, the start of CRCA races in the parks, and end to Seasonal Affective Disorder, what it REALLY means is – Spring Classics! While the Grand Tours are nice and carry their own special dramas, but for us there’s nothing like that shot in the arm that comes from following one day racing. In less than 2 weeks, the schedule will be heating up with Milan-Sanremo. We can’t wait!

RIP Franco

Monday, February 8th, 2010

The cycling world was shocked yesterday to learn of the passing of Classics master Franco Ballerini. The Italian was well known for his work both inside and outside the peloton. After a very successful pro career from 1986 and 2001, Ballerini went on to become the Italian national pro men’s road coach. In a freak accident, Franco died in an auto rally while serving as co-pilot for a friend. He will be forever known for his ’95 and ’98 victories in Paris-Roubaix, and for being a tireless promoter of the sport. Gone much too soon, he will be missed.

Merci Ballerini.
